Athalie de Koning is an international singer and voice-over artist with a passion for Jazz. She was born in the Netherlands, but lived in Thailand, Malaysia, and England alternately over the years. Athalie holds a Bachelor of Education in Music from the Utrecht Conservatoire and a Master of Education in Arts from the Utrecht School of the Arts.
Athalie currently lives in Bangkok, Thailand, where she works as a singer and voice-over artist. She has been listed in Thailand Tatler's Top 300 List for three consecutive years as a leading expat in the arts.
Her band Jazziam released its first single in September of 2013 and the first album of original material called 'Close' was launched at VOGUE Lounge in 2016. Jazziam plays at The Living Room, Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit,
every Sunday for the Jazzy Brunch 12:00-15:00 and at Park Society, SO Sofitel every first Saturday of the month from 20:00-23:00. On other nights, they play at events, weddings, business galas in various collaborations around the region. Athalie played for a season at Rouge Bar, Hansar Bangkok, The Glaz Bar, Plaza Athénée Hotel
, and at Wolff's together with pianist Paul Bebington, as the Jazz Duo “Ath & Paul.” The duo also performed together at Smiles Jazz & Bistro several times and in Hong Kong at the People's Fringe Festival - Music Fairground in November 2013. Athalie has brought her jazzy style to the Royal Dutch Embassy, the British Club, Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Grand Hyatt Erawan, The Continent Hotel, Fubar, the Chatrium Hotel, and the Siam Kempinski Hotel, among other places. She has also lent her voice to several charity organizations, including the LEAF Foundation, the Gift of Life Foundation, Hands Across the Water, and Always Reading Caravan.
Athalie has worked for the Thai Royal Family several times. Most recently, she was commissioned by the Royal Palace to narrate a documentary about Her Majesty Queen Sirikit's SUPPORT Foundation, a Royal initiative to improve the lives of tribes around Thailand, entitled "Sillapacheep." This project followed another documentary that Athalie narrated in 2015 about Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's conservation efforts in Thailand, entitled 'Chao Fah Anurak.' In June 2016, Athalie shared the stage with His Majesty the King's granddaughter, Khun Ploypailin, in composer Somtow Sucharitkul's production Nemiraj. As a teenager, she had the great honour of performing for HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana, patron of the arts.
As a voice-over artist, Athalie sings jingles and records scripts for commercials, web-based trainings, internet presentations, and business profiles. She has been the voice of many different brands such as the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Thailand Cultural Centre (TCC), Skype, Sizzler, Betagen, American Express, SE-ED Bookstore, Fujitsu, Fuji Xerox, Mettler-Toledo, US Visa Information services, and Walmart, to name a few. After teaching Voice at Mahidol University for two years, Athalie accepted the position of Chorus Master with Opera Siam, and still regularly collaborates with this organisation for opera, classical music, and fusion performances.
In the past, Athalie worked as a freelance singer in the Netherlands, appearing with different bands as a Jazz soloist and forming a Close Harmony a cappella group in 2008. During this time, she was also a Voice and Expression teacher at the Utrecht Centre of the Arts and conducted three choirs in styles ranging from Baroque choir works to pop classics. As a lyricist, she writes and performs many of her own Jazz songs, and has been commissioned to compose music for several children’s musicals, commercials, graduations, weddings, and other events.
